I am Whitney Powell. Currently, I serve in El Salvador as a therapeutic riding instructor and program manager for Serenity Therapeutic Riding Center, a program I established in partnership with La Casa de mi Padre, a children’s home that works with children and their families to restore broken relationships. Several years ago, God placed it on my heart to start an equine program for these children and others like them in El Salvador. After graduating from college, I returned to El Salvador, to fulfill this calling. The equine program officially began in August 2010 with two horses (Serena and Spirit). At that time, the program exclusively served the children at La Casa de mi Padre. Since then, two more horses have been donated to the program (Luna and Huracan). The program has also expanded to serve another children’s home as well as additional children in the community. The benefits of the horses are evident and the children thoroughly enjoy their weekly lessons. For some, the horses provide self-confidence to know that they can do whatever they put their minds to. For others, it provides new ways to approach difficult subjects from school. Because horses are very loving creatures and mirror our emotions, the children are learning to control their emotions and to love and trust another. Also, horseback riding is a great source of exercise because it works all the major muscle groups in the body.
As the program continues to grow and evolve, I feel God calling me to step out from under the shelter and provision of my parents who have graciously supported me during this time. With that in mind, I would like to invite you to pray for me and the financial provision needed to take this next step and the expenses of the equine program. I have watched God continually provide for this program and I trust that He is faithful and will continue to do so! If you feel called to support this program or me financially, you can donate via check or electronically. Please be sure to specify that your donation is for the equine program or for Whitney Powell. Thanks again for taking the time to read this letter. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to share with you. If you would like more information, please email me at [email protected] I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
In His love,
